The big buzz coming from SXSW (South by Southwest) in Austin, TX this year was a home that was being 3d printed on site during the conference. This home can apparently be 3d printed or constructed by the Icon construction tech company in under 24 hours and for less than $10,000…I’ve even read that they are targeting to get the price down to $4,000 as a housing solution for developing countries.
Wow! I also like how this 650 square foot cement home looks, too. Icon’s 3d printer is called the “Vulcan.” How cool would it be to have one of these 3d printers and your own 3d printing home construction company to “print” houses on site in a day or so.
Here is a YouTube video about it from Newstory.
Newstory Video Description: “The first permitted, 3D-printed home created specifically for the developing world was unveiled today in Austin, Texas by New Story, the non-profit working to create a world where no human being lives in survival mode, and ICON, the newly launched construction technologies company leading the way into the future of homebuilding by using 3D printing to make major advancements in affordability, building performance, sustainability and customizability.
